Baseball Game Preview: Hollins Royals vs. Tarpon Springs Spongers

The Hollins Royals will head out to take on the Tarpon Springs Spongers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hollins has three straight victories, Tarpon Springs has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Thursday, Hollins earned a 4-1 win over Owensboro.

The team relied heavily on Riley McDonald, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Julian Rosario, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Tarpon Springs came up short against St. Petersburg Catholic on Thursday, falling 12-4.

Andres Rodriguez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Hollins' victory bumped their record up to 7-12. As for Tarpon Springs, they now have a losing record of 10-11.

Hollins took their win against Tarpon Springs in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
