Basketball Game Preview: Greenbrier Wolfpack vs. Brunswick Pirates

The Greenbrier Wolfpack and the Brunswick Pirates will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Greenbrier is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Grovetown on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Greenbrier was beaten by Grovetown 60-26. While losing is never fun, the Wolfpack can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while the Warriors are ranked 78th).

Meanwhile, Brunswick entered their tilt with Effingham County on Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They breezed by the Rebels to the tune of 67-30. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 37 points or more this season.

Greenbrier better focus on containing Lauryn Walker and Martin Davis as the pair were huge in Brunswick's win. Walker went 6 for 10 on her way to 14 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals, while Davis went 6 of 13 en route to 13 points and six rebounds. That's the most steals Walker has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Mckenzie Thomas, who posted six points and seven steals.

Brunswick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 12 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Brunswick pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.8 points per game. As for Greenbrier, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.
