The St. Joseph Catholic Bruins will face off against the St. Andrew's Episcopal Saints at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
While St. Joseph Catholic didn't have the best season last year (they finished 14-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Loyd Star on Monday as St. Joseph Catholic made off with a 14-1 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Bruins, who have now won three contests in a row.
Brandon Burkes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Burkes was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Winans, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of John Dean D'Antonio, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
St. Joseph Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, St. Andrew's Episcopal made sure to put some runs up on the board against McGill-Toolen on Wednesday. St. Andrew's Episcopal blew past McGill-Toolen 14-3. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Saints this season.
Cash Myrick was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. St. Andrew's Episcopal is undefeated when Myrick posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Marco Leflore was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
St. Andrew's Episcopal has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. St. Joseph Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 9-3.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. Joseph Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .495. However, it's not like St. Andrew's Episcopal struggles in that department as they've averaged .442. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
