Preview: Bowie Bulldogs vs. Akins Eagles
Bowie is 9-0 against Akins since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Bowie Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Akins Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Bowie is not getting complacent, as they comes into the match much higher ranked than Akins in Texas (Bowie is ranked 343rd, while Akins is ranked 941st).
Two weeks ago, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Bowie beat Johnson 21-16.
Bowie's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cruz Tello, who rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayson Mathabela, who rushed for 109 yards on only 14 carries.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Akins, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They fell 27-14 to Austin on Thursday.
Bowie's win two weeks ago bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Akins, their loss was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8.
Everything came up roses for Bowie against Akins in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 70-0 victory. Will Bowie repeat their success, or does Akins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
