Basketball Recap: Columbus' Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Columbus came into Friday's contest having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against the Norfolk Panthers by a score of 62-53 on Friday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 57-45 back in January.

Columbus can attribute much of their success to Jaxson Vasicek, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 16 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Quinn Freshour, who posted eight points and seven assists.

Columbus smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Norfolk only pulled down three offensive boards.

When it comes to explaining why Norfolk lost, don't look at Drew Streich. Despite the final result, he went 11 of 23 en route to 30 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Streich a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Makshantsev, who put up five points and six rebounds.

Columbus' win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Norfolk, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus will face off against Omaha North at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Omaha North's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Norfolk, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Papillion-LaVista South at 7:15 p.m. Papillion-LaVista South will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Norfolk surely won't give up without a fight.
