Softball Recap: Melbourne Takes a Loss

Melbourne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 20-10 to the Lake Brantley Patriots. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Layna Ayala made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs, five RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Parker Holton, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Melbourne's loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Lake Brantley, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Melbourne will square off against Cardinal Gibbons at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chiefs have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Lake Brantley, they will take on Cornerstone Charter Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots are on an eight-game streak of home wins, the Ducks a seven-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
