Basketball Recap: Nelson Island Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Nelson Island won the last time they faced Alakanuk and things went their way on Friday too. The Nelson Island Islanders walked away with a 63-54 win over the Alakanuk Braves. Given the Islanders' advantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Braves are ranked 77th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Nelson Island's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for Alakanuk, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

As of now, neither Nelson Island nor Alakanuk have any future games scheduled.
