The Mid Valley Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Riverside Vikings at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Riverside will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Mid Valley extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers stepped up to hand Holy Cross an 11-0 shutout. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 10, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Riverside came out on top against Lakeland on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Vikings were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Chiefs. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Chiefs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Cooper Borowski was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Borowski was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Ethan Slocum looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Nicholas Bohenek, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jason Posluszny, who went 2-for-5 with two runs.
Riverside hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matchups.
Riverside pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Mid Valley, their record is now 15-3.
Mid Valley took their victory against Riverside when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 12-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
