Baseball Recap: Sparta Academy Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Sparta Academy had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 win over the Macon-East Montgomery Academy Knights on Saturday. For the Warriors, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 victory the Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2017.

Sparta Academy got a great performance from JT Coker as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off nine hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Coker a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kelly Barlow, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Murfee Williams, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Sparta Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-20. As for Macon-East Montgomery Academy, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7.

Sparta Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Knights: the pair will be back at it again later today.
