Basketball Recap: Michael Johnston's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Seven Rivers Christian over First Assembly Christian Academy

On Thursday, the Seven Rivers Christian Warriors came up short against the First Assembly Christian Academy Eagles and fell 58-51.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Michael Johnston, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, Johnston is now averaging an impressive 2.3 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Caleb Kuntz, who posted 18 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Seven Rivers Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups.

First Assembly Christian Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sean James out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jausten Rivera, who earned 13 points along with eight boards and seven steals.

Seven Rivers Christian has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for First Assembly Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Seven Rivers Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-42 win against Redeemer Christian on the 10th. As for First Assembly Christian Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 70-38 victory against Corinth Christian Academy on the 10th.
