Softball Game Preview: Ponce De Leon Pirates vs. Graceville Tigers

The Ponce De Leon Pirates will head out on the road to challenge the Graceville Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Ponce De Leon hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

Ponce De Leon managed to slip by Walton the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Pirates lost 7-1 to the Braves on Friday.

Kiyann Alford put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Graceville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Bay, falling 20-2.

Ponce De Leon's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Graceville, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.

Ponce De Leon took their win against Graceville when the teams last played last Friday by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
