Soccer Game Preview: Gilbert vs. South Aiken

The Gilbert Indians will head out to face off against the South Aiken Thoroughbreds at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Gilbert's defense has only allowed 0.5 goals per game this season, so South Aiken's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Gilbert is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Aiken just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Thursday. While the 0-0 score might suggest a draw, it was the Fighting Green Hornets who were credited with the victory. Aiken got it done in the shootout by posting two goals to Gilbert's one. The loss was the Indians' first of the season.

South Aiken's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Airport with a sharp 6-0 win. The Thoroughbreds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by three goals or more this season.

Their offense was hitting Airport from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Mikayla Pollina led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

South Aiken is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 24 goals over those five matches. Having lost for the first time this season, Gilbert fell to 5-1.

Gilbert couldn't quite get it done against South Aiken in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 as they fell 2-0. Can Gilbert avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
