Baseball Recap: L.E.A.D. Academy Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but L.E.A.D. Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Laurel Hill Hoboes 17-16. The win was familiar territory for the Lions, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Silas Brown and Jaxon Greenier made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Brown tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Greenier tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. What's more, Brown posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. At bat, Brown scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances, while Greenier scored a run while going 2-for-5. Brown is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games he's played.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Logan Badejo, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Royce Jones also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

L.E.A.D. Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

L.E.A.D. Academy pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Laurel Hill, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-13.

L.E.A.D. Academy and Laurel Hill are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Lions will take on Rocky Bayou Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.6 runs per game on average), something L.E.A.D. Academy will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Laurel Hill, they will square off against Northview at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
