Softball Recap: Havre De Grace Beats Edgewood for Their Third Straight Win

Havre de Grace had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Edgewood Rams with a sharp 18-1 win. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by ten runs or more this season.

Sarah Weitzel made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Havre de Grace got a massive performance out of Jalynn Ludd, who scored four runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. Ludd continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Kinsey Mentzer was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Havre de Grace always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.

Havre de Grace's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Edgewood, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Havre de Grace will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Rams: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
