Recap: Mason Comets vs. Lakota West Firebirds
The Mason Comets waltzed into their game on Wednesday with 13 straight wins but they left with 14. They took down Lakota West 56-38. Given Mason's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while Lakota West is ranked 41st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mason was led to victory by Anna Habra and Madison Parrish. Habra dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Parrish scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Parrish has scored at least a third of Mason's points. Jazmyn Johnson was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Mason's win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.2 points per game. As for Lakota West, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-5.
Mason will take on Lakota East at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Mason focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Wednesday. As for Lakota West, they will head out on the road to challenge Princeton at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
