Basketball Recap: Reece Morro's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Covenant Classical over Carolina Christian

Covenant Classical was the 46-18 winner over Carolina Christian when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Covenant Classical Warriors fell just short of the Carolina Christian Lions by a score of 55-53 on Monday.

Covenant Classical's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reece Morro, who posted 22 points in addition to six boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Morro a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trinity Creason, who almost dropped a triple-double on 11 points, 11 boards, and nine assists.

Even though they lost, Covenant Classical smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Carolina Christian found their leader in sophomore Lola Wilson, who put up 33 points. Another player making a difference was Taelynn Austin, who had 11 points.

Covenant Classical's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2. As for Carolina Christian, their victory ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-1.

Covenant Classical didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 44-30 win against The Fletcher School on the 10th. As for Carolina Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 0-0 loss against Sugar Creek Charter on the 10th.
