Softball Game Preview: Nelson County Governors vs. Stuarts Draft Cougars

The Nelson County Governors will face off against the Stuarts Draft Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses dating back to last season for Nelson County and seven for Stuarts Draft dating back to last season.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Nelson County's offense. They lost 10-0 to Amherst County on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Stuarts Draft scored the most runs they've had this season on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Buckingham.

Sierra Whetsel was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyla Shifflett, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Whetsel wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Stuarts Draft lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Stuarts Draft's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Nelson County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
