Basketball Recap: Tucker County Takes a Loss

Tucker County has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-47 heartbreaker at the hands of the Charleston Catholic Irish. The Mountain Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Irish apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Tucker County lost on Friday, don't look at Raven Matthews. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 18 points and 13 boards. What's more, Matthews also racked up four blocks, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Mayah Gross was another key player, putting up 14 points and five rebounds.

Ali Wilcox was the offensive standout of the game as she posted 17 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Aurelia Kirby, who put up five points along with five assists and three steals.

Tucker County's defeat dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Charleston Catholic, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3.

Tucker County has already played their next match, a 55-52 loss against Pendleton County on the 10th. As for Charleston Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-50 victory against Lewis County on the 8th.
