Basketball Recap: Ashlah Staten's Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Union over Whiteoak

West Union lost against Whiteoak back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The West Union Dragons fell 38-30 to the Whiteoak Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 485th, while the Wildcats are ranked 222nd).

Several Dragons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ashlah Staten, who went 5 of 11 en route to 10 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Annabelle Mcintosh, who posted nine points.

West Union's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-6. As for Whiteoak, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3.

West Union wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 53-37 win against Glenwood on the 18th. As for Whiteoak, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 43-39 victory against Fayetteville-Perry on the 20th.
