Basketball Recap: Hebbronville Takes a Loss

After flying high against John Paul II last Saturday, Hebbronville came back down to earth. The Hebbronville Longhorns were outmatched by the St. Augustine Knights and fell 84-45. While losing is never fun, the Longhorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1369th, while the Knights are ranked 520th).

Several Longhorns players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacob Gomez, who posted eight points and 15 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Oscar Carrillo, who put up 17 points and eight rebounds.

Hebbronville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for St. Augustine, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hebbronville will take on Banquete in a holiday battle at at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Augustine, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Harmony School of Excellence at 2:30 p.m. on December 28th.
