Basketball Game Preview: Craig Panthers vs. Petersburg Vikings

Craig has gone 8-2 against Petersburg recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Craig Panthers just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Petersburg Vikings at 2:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Craig is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest defeat since January 18, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Haines by a score of 47-45.

Despite their loss, Craig saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Sara Steffen, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 15 boards, was perhaps the best of all. Steffen has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more rebounds the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Patten, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 18 boards.

Even though they lost, Craig smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Petersburg lost to Wrangell at home by a 48-30 margin on Wednesday. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Craig's record now sits at 16-6. As for Petersburg, their record now sits at 2-16.

Craig beat Petersburg 39-30 in their previous meeting back in January. Will Craig repeat their success, or does Petersburg have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
