Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Mountaineers vs. Lighthouse Christian Chargers

The Mt. Vernon Mountaineers will take on the Lighthouse Christian Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Vernon has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mt. Vernon managed to slip by Cassville the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Mt. Vernon came up short against Cassville on Saturday, falling 11-3. The Mountaineers' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Meanwhile, Lighthouse Christian got the win against Pleasant Hope on Monday by a conclusive 17-1. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Jeremiah Richards was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring four runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 12 matchups.

In other batting news, Jeremiah Wagner was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Braxton Goswick, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Lighthouse Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
