Softball Recap: Daniel Wins Going Away Against Berea

The Daniel Lions got the win against the Berea Bulldogs on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-5. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won three matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Lucy Maxon and Maria Bowers did most of the damage at the plate: Maxon scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Bowers scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two runs gave Bowers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bryn Chasteen, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

The win made it two in a row for Daniel and bumps their season record up to 5-5. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing eight strikeouts in those games compared to only 2.5 in the others. As for Berea, they dropped their record down to 3-4-1 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Daniel Lions duke it out with Crescent Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Berea, they will welcome Carolina Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Berea is facing Carolina Academy at the right time seeing as Carolina Academy is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
