Basketball Recap: Columbus' Higher State Rank on Full Display on Tuesday

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Columbus had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They walked away with a 72-63 victory over the Goliad Tigers. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 505th, while the Tigers are ranked 1154th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Grayson Rigdon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 50 points and 13 boards. His evening made it 15 games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points. Brody Tribe was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.

Columbus smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests.

Columbus' record now sits at 13-2. As for Goliad, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-15.

Looking ahead, Columbus will face off against Randolph at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbus knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 15 matches -- so hopefully Randolph likes a good challenge. Goliad does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
