Football Recap: Salado Eagles vs. Pearsall Mavericks

Salado had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They breezed past the Pearsall Mavericks to the tune of 49-6 on Friday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 21 points or more this season.

Salado's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gabe Merriman, who picked up 83 receiving yards and a pair of scores. What's more, Merriman posted two receiving touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Bingham, who rushed for 73 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.

Salado's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. In that department, Ethan Robledo was the leader with two sacks. He has been hot recently, having also posted five or more total tackles the last three times he's played. Luke Bauser was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making five total tackles.

The victory (which was Salado's third in a row) raised their record to 8-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.3 points over those games. As for Pearsall, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-9.
