Basketball Recap: Forge Christian Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Finley Queen and Tiffany Rubio

Forge Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 56-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kent Denver Sun Devils. While losing is never fun, the Fury can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Sun Devils are ranked 93rd).

Despite the defeat, Forge Christian had strong showings from Tiffany Rubio, who almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine boards, and Finley Queen, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Rubio a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Aleeza Olson, who posted eight points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Forge Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Austin Duncan continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Kent Denver, dropping a double-double with 23 points and 11 boards. Duncan also posted three blocks, which is notable because Kent Denver is undefeated when she posts at least three blocks, but 9-10 otherwise. Caroline Phillips was another key player, putting up 12 points and four steals.

Forge Christian's loss dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Kent Denver, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season.

Forge Christian will head out on the road to face off against Denver Christian at 5:30 p.m. on February 28th. Denver Christian will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something Forge Christian surely won't give up without a fight. As for Kent Denver, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Colorado Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
