Softball Recap: Forest Hills Makes It 12 in a Row at Home

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Forest Hills ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Central Cambria Red Devils 9-7. That's more bragging rights for the Rangers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Avery Smiach made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over nine innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off 12 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Snyder, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Payton Pcola also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.

Forest Hills' win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Central Cambria, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Forest Hills will welcome Bellefonte at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Rangers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Central Cambria, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Somerset at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
