Basketball Recap: Lily Brown's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Valley Falls over Atchison

Valley Falls was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a hard 50-32 fall against the Atchison Phoenix. The Dragons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Phoenix apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Valley Falls' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lily Brown, who posted six points and five rebounds.

Atchison found their leader in freshman Zaryah Burge, who went 8 for 10 en route to 17 points in addition to six boards and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Burge has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Alondra Herrera, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and six steals.

Valley Falls' defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Atchison, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-7 record.

Valley Falls has already played their next match, a 48-40 loss against Perry-Lecompton on the 1st. As for Atchison, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 40-38 win against Atchison County on the 1st.
