Live Oak and Willow Glen are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Acorns will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Rams at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Willow Glen took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Live Oak, who comes in off a win.
While Live Oak's victory against Oak Grove wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Acorns had just enough and edged out the Eagles 6-5 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Acorns in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.
Brody Costa made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Costa was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Live Oak let Nathan Bergstrom and Adrian Torres run wild. Bergstrom went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Torres went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Habina, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Willow Glen came up short against Pioneer on Saturday and fell 7-2. The loss put an end to the Rams' undefeated start to the season.
Willow Glen saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miles Austin, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Having lost for the first time this season, Willow Glen fell to 1-1-1. As for Live Oak, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-1-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Live Oak has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Willow Glen struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Live Oak couldn't quite get it done against Willow Glen in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 as they fell 5-0. Will the Acorns have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
