Baseball Recap: Delphi Community Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

After only two runs in their last game, Delphi Community made sure to put some runs up on the board against Benton Central on Tuesday. The Oracles were the clear victors by a 12-4 margin over the Bison. Considering the Oracles' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Keygan Elliott made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. Elliott was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Brett Huffman was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Delphi Community: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Xaine Tessier, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Delphi Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Delphi Community's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5. As for Benton Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.

Delphi Community will take on Tri-Central at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Oracles are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Benton Central, they will square off against North Newton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
