Volleyball Recap: Academy of Science and Innovation Ravens vs. St. Paul Catholic Falcons
It was a good run, but Academy of Science and Innovation unfortunately witnessed the end of their 14-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the St. Paul Catholic Falcons by a score of 3-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Ravens of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2019.
Academy of Science and Innovation took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The final score came out to 25-21, 24-26, 20-25, 25-19, 15-9.
Despite the defeat, Academy of Science and Innovation had strong showings from Patrina McHugh, who had eight digs, four kills, and two aces, and Nehae'Vah Armstrong, who had ten digs, five aces, and a kill. That's the most aces Armstrong has posted in her last seven games. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Ramos, who had 11 digs.
Even though they lost, Academy of Science and Innovation was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 44 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Academy of Science and Innovation's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-2. As for St. Paul Catholic, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8.
It'll be Battle of the Birds when Ravens takes on University at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Paul Catholic, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Wolcott on the 23rd.
