Softball Recap: Western Harnett Wins Going Away Against Westover

Western Harnett had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Westover on Friday. Western Harnett was the clear victor by a 15-0 margin over Westover. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won eight in a row.

Morgan McAuley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Summer Baker was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Audrina Gibson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Western Harnett always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .875. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westover only posted an OBP of .056.

Western Harnett pushed their record up to 4-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Westover, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Looking ahead, Western Harnett will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Overhills at 6:30 p.m. Overhills will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Western Harnett surely won't give up without a fight. As for Westover, they will head out to face off against Triton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
