It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Centerville had no problem doing just that on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Walnut Hills Eagles a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Elks, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Centerville got a big performance out of Shelby Cotterman, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with four RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenley Bakan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Centerville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. They are a perfect 16-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Centerville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Walnut Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 6-23.
Centerville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 10-3 victory against Lakota West on the 21st. Walnut Hills does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
