Softball Recap: Sumner Extends Winning Streak to Three

Sumner won the last time they faced Plant and things went their way on Saturday too. The Stingrays' pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Stingrays have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Aliyanis Stubbs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Stubbs was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Victoria Rudolph and Jaelyn Joiner did most of the damage at the plate: Rudolph scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Joiner scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Sa'Myra Cameron was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

The victory (which was Sumner's third in a row) raised their record to 12-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Plant, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sumner will face off against Steinbrenner at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Plant, they will square off against Robinson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
