Softball Recap: Port Clinton's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Port Clinton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Margaretta Polar Bears 6-5. The victory was nothing new for the Redskins as they're now sitting on three straight.

Ashton Sanchez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over eight innings while giving up six earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Emerson, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Cheyenne Whitaker also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Port Clinton lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more home runs.

Port Clinton's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Margaretta, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Port Clinton will face off against Edison at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Margaretta, they will venture away from home to square off against Toledo Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
