Baseball Game Preview: Shasta Wolves vs. Pleasant Valley Vikings

Shasta is 0-10 against Pleasant Valley since May of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Wolves will challenge the Vikings at 2:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Shasta has four straight victories, Pleasant Valley has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Shasta beats Pleasant Valley with 11 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Wolves put the hurt on Lassen with a sharp 11-5 win on Friday.

Jack Peterson was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Boesiger, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Shasta was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive games.

Chico hit Pleasant Valley with a six-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 7-6. The game snapped a strange streak: the last three times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Pleasant Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dominic Borges, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another was Scotty McKeown, who went 3-for-4 with one run.

Shasta's record now sits at 14-10. As for Pleasant Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 12-12.

Shasta might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Pleasant Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
