Softball Game Preview: South Davidson Wildcats vs. West Davidson Dragons

South Davidson is 0-10 against West Davidson since April of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Wildcats will square off against the Dragons at 6:00 p.m. South Davidson will be strutting in after a win while West Davidson will be coming in after a loss.

South Davidson will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against High Point Central on Wednesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Bison with a sharp 17-1 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won four contests by more than 14 runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Kacie Gordon, who went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Harleigh Russell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

South Davidson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .542. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, West Davidson's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Davidson.

West Davidson saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gracie Michael, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

South Davidson's record now sits at 5-3. As for West Davidson, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. South Davidson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .519. However, it's not like West Davidson struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

South Davidson suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to West Davidson when the teams last played on Friday. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
