Football Recap: Kodey Mckinney's Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. Joseph-Ogden over Tolono Unity + How To Watch

St. Joseph-Ogden and Tolono Unity squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but St. Joseph-Ogden had to settle for second. They took a 51-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rockets. The defeat continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Rockets: they've now lost three in a row.

St. Joseph-Ogden's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kodey McKinney, who rushed for 113 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 216 yards and a pair of TDs. McKinney's passing game has become a key predictor of the Spartans' success: the team is 6-2 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise. Another rusher making a difference was Wyatt Wertz, who gained 113 total yards.

Tolono Unity was led to victory by Dane Eisenmenger and Crewe Eckstein. Eisenmenger threw for 237 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes, while Eckstein rushed for 170 yards and a pair of scores. That's the most rushing yards Eckstein has posted since back in October.

St. Joseph-Ogden's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Tolono Unity, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-1.

St. Joseph-Ogden does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Tolono Unity, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 56-50 loss against Byron on the 28th.
