St. Edward assumed the top spot in this week's Midwest rankings after beating previous No. 13 Austintown-Fitch to advance to the Ohio Division I semifinals.

St. Edward ascends to No. 1 with Colerain's loss — moving Moeller to No. 2 — and there are four new top 25 members.

Brett Kean completed 11 of 25 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns and the defense yielded just 146 yards.

2. (5) Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati) 12-1The defending champs won their biggest game of the year thus far by handing previously unbeaten and No. 1-ranked Colerain (Cincinnati) a 35-26 defeat in the Division I state quarterfinals before a standing-room-only crowd.
Gus Ragland overcame frigid weather by running 29 times for 204 yards and four touchdowns.

3. (4) Brother Rice (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) 13-0The Warriors handed King (Detroit) its second loss 43-20 during the Division II state semifinals as
Alex Malzone completed 11 of 21 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns.
Brian Walker ran 16 times for 97 yards and four touchdowns.

DeTuan Smith ran for 130 yards on 10 carries and scored three times.

The Broncos dealt Sycamore its first loss, 42-20 in the Class 5A state semifinals as
Alex Wills passed for three touchdowns and ran for two others.

14. (3) Cass Tech (Detroit) 12-1, season completeThe Technicians were shocked by Detroit Catholic Central (Novi) 28-0 — ending an 18-game winning streak — during the Division I state semifinals.
15. (17) Lake Zurich (Ill.) 12-1The Bears ended an 11-game winning streak for the defending state champs with a 16-7 victory over then No. 11-ranked Glenbard West (Glen Ellyn) in the Class 7A state semifinals.
Noah Allgood set the pace by passing for 134 yards and rushing for another 42 yards, including one score.
