Basketball Recap: Richfield Comes Up Short

Richfield lost against Dietrich last Wednesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Richfield Tigers were outmatched by the Dietrich Blue Devils and fell 65-38. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 37th).

Despite the defeat, Richfield saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Garrett Huffman posted 11 points. The dominant performance also gave Huffman a new career-high in shooting accuracy (57%). Jace Fuchs was another key player, shooting 50% from the field en route to 13 points and eight rebounds.

Dietrich's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chase Norman, who went 6-for-14 to rack up 14 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Connor Perkins, who shot 46% from the field on his way to 15 points.

Richfield's loss dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Dietrich, they pushed their record up to 18-3 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.

Richfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-47 win against Castleford on the 24th. As for Dietrich, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-50 victory against Carey on the 26th.
