Midtown is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Monday. They will be playing at home against the Mays Raiders at 5:55 p.m. Midtown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Midtown barely beat Southwest DeKalb the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Midtown's pitcher stepped up to hand Southwest DeKalb a 15-0 shutout on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Knights considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Sam Dempsey made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Charlie Frederick and Alec Sevigny did most of the damage at the plate: Frederick scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2, while Sevigny scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave Frederick a new career-high. Patrick Rebillot was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Midtown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southwest DeKalb only posted an OBP of .200.
Meanwhile, Mays was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jonesboro.
Mays saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was LaMarquis Sandifer, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another was Ronald Tucker, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4.
Mays now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Midtown, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Midtown has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mays struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Midtown's way against Mays in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Midtown made off with a 21-0 win. Will Midtown repeat their success, or does Mays have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
