Baseball Recap: New Paltz Comes Up Short

Marlboro Central hit New Paltz with a four-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Huguenots fell 5-1 to the Dukes. The Huguenots were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Dukes earlier this season, when they won 6-3.

New Paltz got a good showing from Jason Scotto, who pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, New Paltz saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Treglia, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Ben Gabriels also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for New Paltz and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Marlboro Central, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Paltz will face off against Rondout Valley at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Ganders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.86 runs per game on average), something the Huguenots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Marlboro Central, they will square off against Wallkill at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
