Basketball Recap: Marion County Comes Up Short

Marion County lost against Macon County two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Marion County Eagles fell to the Macon County Bulldogs 58-54. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 338th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 156th).

When it comes to explaining why Marion County lost, don't look at Taylor Montgomery. Despite the final result, she shot 4-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double with 18 points and 16 boards. What's more, Montgomery also posted a 57% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sage Davis, who went 5-for-10 en route to 15 points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Marion County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Macon County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aliyah Lake, who went 7-for-9 to rack up 18 points and six rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Lake now owns an excellent 41.8% three-point shooting accuracy. Morgan Cochran was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.

Marion County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season. As for Macon County, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 18-3.

Marion County has already played their next matchup, a 40-39 win against Schley County on the 13th. Macon County has also already played their next contest (against Taylor County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
