Basketball Recap: Galax Maroon Tide vs. Fort Chiswell Pioneers
Galax lost against Fort Chiswell last Wednesday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Galax Maroon Tide were outmatched by the Fort Chiswell Pioneers and fell 81-53. While losing is never fun, the Maroon Tide can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 381st, while the Pioneers are ranked 174th).
Fort Chiswell found their leader in freshman Owen Jackson, who went 8 for 15 on his way to 23 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. That's the most steals Jackson has posted since back in December of 2024. Parker Moore was another key player, going 5 of 9 en route to 11 points along with seven boards and six steals.
Galax dropped their record down to 1-12 with the loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Fort Chiswell, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Galax will challenge Grayson County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Galax is facing Grayson County at the right time seeing as Grayson County is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Fort Chiswell, they will host Giles at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Chiswell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.1 points per game this season.
