Basketball Game Preview: West Rowan Falcons vs. Concord Spiders

The West Rowan Falcons will head out to challenge the Concord Spiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: West Rowan has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Concord will arrive with seven straight wins.

West Rowan is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Robinson on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. West Rowan was outmatched by Robinson and fell 78-39. The Falcons were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-20.

Israel Ford put forth a good effort for the losing side as he posted ten points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Young, who had nine points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Concord earned a 75-67 victory over Lake Norman Charter on Friday. Given the Spiders' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 184th, while the Knights are ranked 393rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

West Rowan better keep an eye on Kyzen Coleman. He was instrumental in Concord's win, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 12 boards. Coleman has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyvonta Rushmeyer, who posted 13 points and seven steals.

Concord smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive games dating back to last season.

Concord pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for West Rowan, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

West Rowan ended up a good deal behind Concord in their previous meeting back in February, losing 71-57. Thankfully for West Rowan, Jeremiah Howard (who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
