Basketball Recap: West Brunswick Trojans vs. Laney Buccaneers
West Brunswick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Laney Buccaneers and fell 70-27. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 45-36 back in December of 2024.
Ja'Kya Johnson was West Brunswick's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Saniya Stanley held things down on the boards with eight rebounds. Brooklyn Coble took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Laney's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Piper Conklin, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 17 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Conklin has posted since back in February of 2024. Sofia Clayton was another key player, going 6 for 12 en route to 16 points.
West Brunswick now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Laney, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.
West Brunswick will challenge New Hanover at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Laney, they will take on North Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Considering North Brunswick has lost five straight at home and Laney three straight on the road , this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum.
