Softball Recap: Serra Catholic's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Serra Catholic won the last time they faced Greensburg Central Catholic and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Eagles walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Centurions. The win was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won five contests in a row.

Kelly Morrissey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Keyara Watkins, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three doubles, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Giana Foster, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Serra Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Serra Catholic's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Greensburg Central Catholic, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-5 record.

Looking ahead, Serra Catholic will square off against Northgate at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Flames have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. Greensburg Central Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
