Softball Recap: West Carroll Takes a Loss

West Carroll had lost 21 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-17 to make it 22. They fell 6-2 to the East Dubuque Warriors. If the Thunder were looking for revenge after losing 13-1 to the Warriors when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for East Dubuque, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

For East Dubuque's part, Curin Oberman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. Oberman has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Katie Welp was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

Coming up, East Dubuque will be playing at home against Dakota at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. West Carroll will be paying especially close attention to East Dubuque's match: after East Dubuque faces off against Dakota, they'll take on West Carroll again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
