Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Pembroke Pines Charter's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Pembroke Pines Charter's game on Wednesday was all tied up 26-26 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They took down the Cypress Bay Lightning 61-44. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Lightning are ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pembroke Pines Charter's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maximo Ortega, who posted 13 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zemari Days, who went 5 for 8 en route to 13 points and three steals.

Pembroke Pines Charter has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 35.9% in those games and 27.8% outside of them. As for Cypress Bay, they dropped their record down to 12-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Pembroke Pines Charter will face off against Coral Glades at 8:30 p.m. on January 30th. Coral Glades is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 71.4 points per game this season. As for Cypress Bay, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-57 win against Boyd Anderson on the 24th.
