Football Recap: Fernley Vaqueros vs. Spring Creek Spartans
Fernley and Spring Creek squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Fernley had to settle for second. They took a 36-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spring Creek Spartans. The Vaqueros gained 55 more yards on the day, but it was the Spartans that made the best use of them.
Fernley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Riley Mccullar, who rushed for 171 yards on only nine carries. Those 171 rushing yards gave Mccullar a new career-high. Keeshawn Love also helped out as he racked up 128 rushing yards.
Even though they lost, Fernley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 446 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Spring Creek found their leader in sophomore Mccoy Mcartor, who rushed for 203 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Those 203 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Mcartor.
Fernley now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Spring Creek, their record is now an identical 5-6.
